The Path of Fear

This post is about Love, not fear. Yet, as we grasp the concept of light through our awareness of darkness, understanding love requires us to examine how deeply we have sunk into the “rabbit hole” of fear, as this emotion can be misleading.

The path of fear is easy to take because it is paved with negative emotions. Negative emotions are wired in the biology of “Homo Sapiens” to protect them from saber tooth tigers and the neighboring tribe of ferocious warriors. Hundreds of thousands of years later, those emotions remain unchanged, sometimes commanding our individual and collective lives.

The path of fear manifests in shame and guilt when we live in the past or anxiety for the unknown when we live in the future. Those emotions don’t exist in the present moment. Similarly, fear can present itself as a “good” opportunity that you take for the sake of material interest or for short-term gain, only to find yourself later stuck in a meaningless job or a toxic relationship. Moreover, most organizations that rule our societies and businesses today have siloed structures and command and control leadership practices born in an ego-system awareness era based on power and fear.

We also take the path of fear when well-intentioned leaders, confronted by present-day disruptions, instead of having the courage to innovate, make “safe” decisions based on solutions that have proved to be successful in the past. However, in today’s complex environment, they complicate things even more.

Human beings’ biology evolves at a slow pace. It would take us millions of years of evolutionary development to match our present technology developments. As we develop new technologies, we must consider their effects on our cognitive and emotional well-being and use them wisely to enhance our relationships. But that is not what we are experiencing in reality. Is it? Technological advances, especially AI, are being used today to influence and disrupt human behavior, value systems, and relationships.

It is not casual that extremism and polarization are rising worldwide. Some leaders pinpoint specific blind spots in different cultures to seed division and discord. Those blind spots are fear-based feelings and beliefs, like power, greed, violence, discrimination, polarization, post-truth, race supremacy, materialism, nationalism, populism, fanaticism, extremism, and the like.

Do you sense where humanity is heading by following the path of fear? But as I said earlier, this post is about Love! So, allow me to close the arguments against fear with this quote from Yoda in “The Phantom Menace,”

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Accordingly, we, as a human species, cannot continue on that path because it would have unthinkable consequences for the environment, society, and civilization.

How We Build a Path of Love

Wisdom-Centered Leadership is a transformative journey that leads us to a brighter, more compassionate future. By embracing love in all our lives, we can create a world that thrives on understanding, empathy, and interconnectedness, reshaping our individual lives and collective destiny — a Path of Love.

All we have to do is own a piece of the path. It is ours to polish and hone it, and we place it on the pathway we are building. As we build that pathway, it changes us as the builders of the path and shapes the destination we are going to — Dr. Noel Nannup paraphrasing aboriginal Australian wisdom — The Gaia Journey.

I have been exploring WHAT life´s ultimate purpose was, initially unconsciously and later with intention — studying, researching, and co-creating with a vast web of change-makers worldwide. Needless to say, I found LOVE in every conversation, project, task, and endeavor I was involved in. If you look for it, love is everywhere.

Now, I can share HOW you can discover and take care of the piece of the path Dr. Nannup speaks about. The HOW comprises Eco-system Awareness methods, tools, and a supportive space to nurture your intention.

Ecosystem awareness is the ability to see the world from a new perspective, one that is based on interconnectedness and interdependence. This new perspective allows us to see the impact of our actions on the larger system and make choices that benefit all. — Otto Scharmer, Theory U: Leading from the emerging future.

After deep diving into Otto Sharmer´s Eco-system Awareness, Positive Psychology, and Ontological Coaching, I developed the “Wisdom-Centered Leadership: Cultivating Systemic Change with Love” program. This program contains a lifetime of learned experiences, methods, tools, and practices to embark on a transformational journey and enable you to catalyze Ecosystem change.

Wisdom-Centered Leadership is built on the following principles:

- Keeping our Attention on our Intention keeps us focused on what matters most

“The power of attention is the real superpower of our age. Attention, aligned with intention, can make mountains move.” — Otto Scharmer.

According to Otto Scharmer, humans have a unique ability — to align attention, intention, and action.

“This alignment is the inner core of the U process, which, to simplify it a lot, can be summed up in these two changes:

· Attention, when truly deepened, gives rise to intention: a sense and presence of purpose of why we are here.

· Intention, when truly clear, catalyzes action: the ability to bring our most profound purpose to life.

Aligning attention, intention, and agency allows us to co-create and realize our full future potential, both individually and collectively” — OS.

My intention for the new year is to focus on helping others build and follow their particular and collective Paths of Love.

What is your intention?

- Being present in every moment of our lives grounds us in the current reality

There are two reasons for being present:

  • The past has gone away, leaving its experiences to us, while the future, full of surprises, is yet to come.
  • So, all we are left with is the present moment, where we can integrate our past experiences with our intention to catalyze the future that wants to emerge through us, right here, right now.

- Seeing and Sensing every place we are in now opens our perception capacity

“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.”― William Blake.

  • If we look well, there is something to admire, savor, feel, appreciate, and learn from every place at the present moment.
  • Do the best you can where you are now because you are there for a reason. You need that experience to grow as a human being. Act on it!

- Doing what we love leads us to experience being “in the zone”

It is by doing what we love that our job becomes a pleasure, not a duty.

  • When we do what we love, we experience “flow,” a mental state in which we focus on the things that matter, losing the sense of time. We often achieve extraordinary results, allowing us to leave a legacy to the world.
  • Even if we don’t like what we do now, changing our attitude will create the opportunities for change we seek.

- Being vulnerable opens the doors to higher quality relationships

We find Love in our lives by relating with other people.

  • Hence, we are being called to listen empathically to everyone we meet to see them and sense their resonance.
  • Yet, by doing so, we are taking a two-way path called vulnerability because as you see, you are being seen, and as you sense, your resonance is being sensed, too.

- Seeking inspiration we inspire people too

We seek inspiration by:

  • Seeing people as they are and sensing their resonance. It allows us to meet individuals and communities who inspire us. Similarly, people will come to us because we somehow inspire them.
  • As a result, they appreciate us for who we are, not for what we have or do.
  • Consequently, we become catalyzers in creating a virtuous circle where everyone improves to be better, personally and professionally, since inspiration is the key to creativity and the spark that ignites the growth of the world.

- Being Creative is the key to Innovation

Doing what you love and being inspired open the opportunity for acquiring a creative mindset.

  • Creativity is an individual mindset capacity. Some creative people are born that way, but most learn to be creative using methods and tools to enhance the mindset shift.
  • Innovation is a collective capacity achieved by creative people working together.

- Shifting our attention, we perceive opportunities where others see problems

  • By shifting our attention, we are able to perceive adversities as opportunities instead of obstacles.
  • In time, we will develop the patience and perseverance to fully appreciate life in the present moment, be inspired, and rely on our abilities and those who love us.
  • This will give us the chance to do what we love and allow us to achieve our dreams even when we experience hardship.

- Developing faith in a higher power, we align with the intention of the Whole

Building the Path of Love gives us the opportunity to:

  • Develop faith in a higher power some of us call God, Who weaves our journeys into the complex web of life so that we integrate ourselves with everyone else and into the purpose of the whole.

- Becoming a key element in creating a better world: You are needed now.

  • If we build our part of the path of love, we will be in the right place at the right moment to fulfill our role within the universe’s complex operating mechanism. This will make us aware that our tiny grain of sand is critical to creating a better world for all.
  • “If not us, who? And if not now, when?’ ‘We are the ones we’ve been waiting for” Let´s build a Path of Love. Hillel the Elder. Wisdom Weavers of the World. HB.

A Call to Action: Building a Community of Love With Wisdom-Centered Leadership

The time has come for us to unite and form a community based on the principles of love we’ve discussed. Together, we have the power to transform our communities, organizations, and, ultimately, the world.

“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

I believe Dr. King's quote referred to people´s inner power translated into affirmative action, in other words, the alignment of attention, intention, and meaningful action in whatever field you participate in.

Here’s how you can be part of this transformative movement:

Empowering Your Journey

Participating in the “Wisdom-Centered Leadership: Cultivating Systemic Change with Love” program will prepare you for this transformative journey and enable you to catalyze Ecosystem-awareness change.

  • Participating in coaching sessions, workshops, and facilitated group experiences will help you turn those love-based principles into practical applications.
  • You will share your experiences, challenges, and triumphs with a supporting community of others walking this path.

What is in for you:

Wisdom-centered leadership allows you to update yourself on the skills most demanded by companies. According to the Future of Jobs Report from the World Economic Forum, these are the skills that are going to be most needed in 2025:

To obtain a better perspective, let´s group the skills you will cultivate in the Wisdom-Centered Leadership program according to the WEF’s skills ranking:
